Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Injections
PRP is derived from a small sample of a patient’s own blood and is rich in healing platelets, growth factors and anti-inflammatory substances. PRP may promote healing and slow the progression of cartilage change in osteoarthritis. The process of collection, processing, and injection of PRP is uncomplicated and safe.
Hyaluronic Acid (HA) Injections (Viscosupplementation)
Viscosupplementation refers to the injection of biologically derived HA into arthritic joints. HA is naturally produced in our joints and acts as a lubricant. In an osteoarthritic joint, the quality and quantity of this fluid are reduced and can be ‘topped up’ with Visco injections. This is commonly referred to as ‘oil for the engine’. These injections can improve pain, stiffness, and function of the joint. Newly available HA products are now indicated for soft tissue injections at the elbow and heel areas as well.
Cortisone injections
Cortisone injections are commonly used when inflammation is present, as in cases of bursitis and arthritis. Swelling, pain and stiffness can be modified with onset typically within 48 hours of injection.
